Dancers are at an increased risk of developing eating disorders due to a high level of pressure to maintain low body weights. In addition, this intense environment may contribute to high risk behaviors such as tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. The participants in this study consisted of dancers from private national dance schools (n = 6). Students (n = 82) who were at least 18 years old and who were currently enrolled in a national dance school completed an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire included demographic questions, closed-ended questions adapted from the 1990 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (1993), and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26). The results of the questionnaire were gathered, and a chi-square test of independence (alpha level of.05) was conducted using SPSS software. The results failed to show a significant relationship between eating disorders and high risk behaviors in dancers (p =.785).
