The purpose of this study was to measure the critical thinking skills of instructors assigned to the US Army Medical Department Center and School. Representing a response rate of 47%, 346 subjects completed Form 2000 of the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST) yielding an overall score and five sub-scores: analysis, inference, evaluation, induction, and deduction. Participants also reported demographics which included gender, ethnicity, age, rank, medical specialty (MOS or AOC), highest degree held, assignment background, deployment experience, and years of service. Descriptive statistics, t tests, and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze data.

Significance at rho<.01 was found for critical thinking skills levels of officer vs. non-commissioned officers (NCOs) vs. civilian instructors, and again at rho<.01 for education level at the doctoral level. In terms of content specialty, significance at rho<.05 was found for Radiology Specialists and Veterinary Food Specialists for overall CCTST scores and Induction sub-scores respectively. Little or no significance was found for variables of assignment background, deployment experience, or years of military service.
