Taiwan has been colonized by the Dutch, Spain, Ming Dynasty, Ching Dynasty and Japan for 376 years before Kuo-Min-Tang government retreated to Taiwan at 1949. For centuries, the Taiwanese indigenous people have been oppressed by the colonial government and the Han Chinese because their life-style, language and culture are quite different from the majority. This study aims to analyze the current demographic and socioeconomic differences between Han Chinese and indigenous population and to investigate the migration behavior and migration patterns of indigenous people, including the trend of reverse migration in terms of urban indigenous people due to maladjustment in the destination society. This research established a relationship between median age and indigenous in-migration rate in metropolitan areas, and unemployment rate and in-migration rate. This study also confirms the disparities between urban indigenous people and tribal indigenous people, Han Chinese and indigenous people, and urban Han Chinese and urban indigenous people.
