520 $a The University has undergone tremendous growth and success. As of 2005, the institution boasts an enrollment of 7,500 students. With this success, has come the usual growing pains, such as increased competition for revenues, funding and students, space shortages, changes in state and federal mandates, changing demographics, and increased costs. Thus, the research question to be answered was: What is the relationship between leadership, strategic planning, and the capital structure of Cardinal Stritch University? Transforming the leadership at CSU is crucial so that the University achieves its Strategic Plan, a plan necessary for its survival. Capital is a crucial component of any strategic plan; however, it is the author's hypothesis that the plan is not achievable given current mindsets regarding funding alternatives. Thus, the goal was to research the connection of leadership, strategic planning, and capital structure.
520 $a The goal of this dissertation was achieved through case study research, with an emphasis on examining leadership theories, strategic planning and capital budgeting concepts and techniques, and demonstrating their interrelationships. Included in the research is the history of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, as their culture is deeply imbued at the University and provides a key to understanding the challenges faced by the institution. The author recommended leveraging the University's assets through the acceptance of debt. The University can manage a significant amount of debt with minimal adverse effects.
