Thesis (D.M.)--University of Phoenix, 2008.
The purpose of this correlational research study was to assess the leadership styles exhibited by frontline medical imaging supervisors and examine the relationship between leadership behaviors and intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors influencing job satisfaction from the perspective of frontline medical imaging staff in acute care healthcare facilities in the United States. The sample consisted of 359 radiologic technologists registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and working as staff technologists in acute care healthcare facilities in the United States. The results of the study suggest that significant, positive relationships exist between satisfaction of extrinsic and intrinsic motivators and overall satisfaction with the work environment, overall satisfaction with the job, and commitment to the employer. The research supports the conclusion that relationships between supervisor transformational and contingent reward leadership behaviors and intrinsic esteem motivators were positive. The strongest relationships existed between supervisor transformational leadership behavior perceived as individualized consideration and the transactional leadership behavior of contingent reward and satisfaction with intrinsic esteem motivators. An explanatory model, illustrating the relationships between leadership behaviors exhibited by frontline medical imaging supervisors and frontline medical imaging professionals' satisfaction with the job and commitment to employers, is presented.
