520 $a I have interviewed three top companies of Hong Kong' s jewellery industry as case studies. They are Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang, and Tse Sui Luen. Without these case studies, this study would not have been possible.
520 $a In addition, the study emphasizes all of the activities held by some organizations of Hong Kong' s jewellery industry. It also discusses the role of government.
520 $a The central aim of the thesis is to analyse the various factors which have influenced the development and transformation of Hong Kong' s jewellery industry since the Second World War.
520 $a The impressive growth of Hong Kong' s jewellery industry can also be attributed partly to the free port status of Hong Kong, which makes it an ideal location for setting up a jewellery manufacturing base.
520 $a This thesis studies the history of Hong Kong' s jewellery industry which is a relatively new area in history.
520 $a In the early years, the industry was mainly geared towards retail sales locally. But export business began to grow faster in the mid of 1970s. While local sales enjoyed a continuous growth supported by strong tourist spendings and a steadily expanding local market, exports of jewellery constituted more than local sales.
