This ethnographic study addressed effective counseling strategies about financial aid for Latino families to help increase enrollment in 4-year colleges. It focuses on parents and students on their last semester of their senior year during the financial aid process. I explore how student's college choices are bounded by a variety of factors within the school's structural organization and the interaction with a students' culture. By taking an anthropological framework, my qualitative research explores cultural views, behavior and perspectives about the cost benefit analysis of a college education for Latino, families.

The research process utilizes participant observation and interviews in uncovering the importance in "authentic caring" for developing strong relationships and advising strategies.
