Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2008.
It is estimated that 3.2 million American children witness incidents of domestic violence annually. This thesis and the parenting curriculum that was developed were especially designed to meet the needs of the children who have witnessed domestic violence though the education of their mothers. By providing the parent with good parenting skills social workers can help both the parent and the child. This parenting curriculum is designed for women survivors of domestic violence that are between the ages of 18-50, and their children. This curriculum is an interactive and strength based curriculum that allows the women to learn effective parenting skills. It is an 8 session curriculum in which an educational component, a personal reflection component, and a sharing component is part of each session. Successful implementation of this parenting curriculum can help break the cycle of domestic violence by helping parents raise their children in a healthy violence-free environment.
