The goal of the study was to determine the ability of teachers to identify children with communication disorders, and if education regarding communication disorders was needed, was a brief educational video a sufficient training method to improve teachers' identification abilities? This study included three portions which (1) examined teachers' ability to identify children with communication disorders and children with normal speech and language development, through videotaped speech samples, (2) presented an educational video on communication disorders and their key characteristics, and (3) administered a post-test to determine any significant differences in pre- and post-test scores. Results indicated teachers were competent in the identification of articulation and fluency disorders, yet not in language disorders or normal language development. Subjects were able to (above 85%) appropriately refer children, but subjects were not able to identify specific characteristics of a disorder overall.
