Gonzalez, Daniel.
Video game violence and its effects on American youth.
- 61 p.
Adviser: Judy Hails.
Thesis (M.S.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2007.
The purpose of this project is to offer an explanation on the possible connection between violent video games and aggressive behavior. With video games becoming increasingly popular, they have also faced major scrutiny from the community because of the detrimental effects these games can have on players and observers. With very few research completed on this topic, debate among researchers has continued throughout the years. The majority of the studies, however, have found that young children seem to be most affected. Teens and adults have shown some negative effects after playing violent video games, but to a much lesser degree. The methodology for this project will examine peer-reviewed journals from the library, online article and abstract databases, newspaper articles, journals from the sociological and psychological sciences, books, and film. The literature remains inconclusive; therefore, further research is required and necessary to determine if aggressiveness is the result from such violent video games or due to other influencing factors. The answer would be very beneficial to those individuals working with youth and also those involved in the criminal justice system.Subjects--Topical Terms:
