This study examined the potential moderation effect of computer anxiety on different combinations of computerized-test predictors and job performance criteria using a sample of genuine job applicants. This research found computer anxiety moderated the relationships between each both conscientiousness and locus of control with contextual performance; however, computer anxiety did not moderate the relationships between cognitive predictors and task performance. To further explore computer anxiety's moderating effects on the relationships between the personality predictor variables and contextual performance, each gender was analyzed separately. Results showed that computer anxiety only was a significant moderator for women. Specifically, computer anxiety moderated the locus of control - contextual performance, locus of control - task performance, locus of control - affective commitment, and conscientiousness - contextual performance relationships only for women. Gender stereotype threat may have been a factor in these gender differences. To ensure that computer anxiety was the explanatory factor, additional moderated multiple regression analyses were run. Results indicated that computer anxiety explained unique variance beyond that explained by negative affectivity and test anxiety. These two variables were independently tested to see if, alone, either would moderate the relationships between any of the predictor-criterion pairs, but only computer anxiety showed any evidence of moderation. Thus, computer anxiety is a unique construct that does moderate predictor-criterion relationships; this effect seems to occur predominantly for women.
