This phenomenological study aimed to explore the use of Adlerian social interest therapy as a form of treatment for depression among the elderly. Social interest therapy is based on the theoretical concepts of Adlerian theory which contends that social isolation from family, friends, and the community can contribute to feelings of depression. Depression is an expanding problem in the elderly and more appropriate methods of treatment are needed. A purposeful sample of nine elderly depressed participants were interviewed to capture their perceptions, feelings, and reactions to attending social interest therapy. The purpose of conducting this research study was to discover what meaning elderly clients perceived by attending social interest therapy.
