520 $a Marital attitudes were determined using the Favorableness of Attitude towards Marriage Scale (FAMS). Family functioning was assessed with the Family Assessment Device (FAD). Participants' demographic information (age, gender and biological parents marital status) was obtained from questions that were placed within the FAMS questionnaire.
520 $a Participants were primarily (73.9%) children from intact families. Overall, participants showed positive attitudes towards marriage. Regression procedures were used to analyze participants family functioning and attitudes towards marriage. Three subscales of the FAD were found to be significant with attitudes towards marriage. The subscale Affective Involvement showed the most significant relationship with attitudes towards marriage with a .001 level of significance. Both the Roles and General Functioning subscales showed a .05 level of significance. Examination of familial divorce status with marital attitudes showed a significant negative correlation with a .01 level of significance. Thus, children from divorced families actually have more positive attitudes towards marriage than children from intact families.
