We have made a precision search for <italic>CP</italic> violation in hyperon decays, hyperon decays being sensitive to exotic sources of <italic> CP</italic> violation that, for example, kaon decays are not. The measured <italic> CP</italic> observable is <math> <f> A<inf><g>X</g><g>L</g><hsp sp="0.212"></inf>=<hsp sp="0.212"> <fen lp="par"><rm><g>a</g><inf><g>X</g></inf><g>a</g><inf><g>L</g> </inf>-<hsp sp="0.212"><g>a</g><inf><a><ac><g>X</g></ac><ac>&d1;</ac></a> </inf><g>a</g><inf><a><ac><g>L</g></ac><ac>&d1;</ac></a></inf> </rm><rp post="par"></fen>/<fen lp="par"><g>a</g><inf><g>X</g> </inf><g>a</g><inf><g>L</g></inf><hsp sp="0.212">+<hsp sp="0.212"> <g>a</g><inf><a><ac><g>X</g></ac><ac>&d1;</ac></a></inf><g>a</g><inf> <a><ac><g>L</g></ac><ac>&d1;</ac></a></inf><rp post="par"></fen> </f> </math>, where <math> <f> <g>a</g><inf><g>X</g></inf></f> </math> and <math> <f> <g>a</g><inf><g>L</g></inf></f> </math> are the decay parameters for <math> <f> <g>X</g><sup>-</sup><hsp sp="0.212">→<hsp sp="0.212"><g>L</g> <g>p</g><sup>-</sup></f> </math> and <math> <f> <g>L</g><hsp sp="0.212">→<hsp sp="0.212"><mit>p<rm><g>p</g><sup> -</sup></rm></mit></f> </math>, and the corresponding quantities for the antiparticles are overlined.
