Phillips Green, Mary J.
A grounded theory of group members' relationships.
- 269 p.
Adviser: William B. Kline.
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Idaho State University, 2002.
This grounded theory study explored relationships that develop between group members. Interviews and a focus group allowed 10 participants to describe their relationships and how those relationships developed during their group experience. This research used group members' descriptions of their group relationships and developed a grounded theory from the data. Members described extensive internal processing of their emotions and thoughts regarding complex group interactions to make their choices to participate. Members' interactional choices influenced other members' choices and led to additional internal processing and choices. Members described how they applied group learning to other relationships outside groups. Data collection and analysis is discussed. The grounded theory of group members' relationships is presented. Professional implications, limitations, and implications for future research are discussed in conjunction to the findings.
