Thesis (Ph.D.)--Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University, 1992.
The MMPI-2 responses of 57 male, and 65 female Chinese American college students were examined. The scores from the three validity and ten clinical scales of these students were compared with those from the MMPI-2 normative sample (Butcher, Dahlstrom, Graham, Tellegen, & Kaemmer 1989), and a college sample studied by Butcher, Graham, Dahlstrom, and Bowman (1989). T test analyses revealed statistically significant Chinese elevations in comparison to the MMPI-2 normative sample on scales Hs, D, Pd, Pa, Pt, Sc, and Si for men and on scales F, Pd, Pt, Sc, and Ma for women. When compared to the Butcher, Graham, et al. (1989) college sample, Chinese subjects obtained statistically significant elevations on scales Hs, D, Sc, & Si for men, and on scales L, D, & Si for women. There were no Chinese MMPI-2 scale scores in the clinically pathological range (T $\ge$ 66), but some scores were in the range that may suggest some maladjustment (56 $\ge$ T $<$ 66). The effect on MMPI-2 scores of birth origin of Chinese, and length of stay of overseas Chinese were examined in a supplementary study. Further research is recommended before Chinese norms can be considered. It is suggested that clinicians interpret the MMPI-2 scores of Chinese American college students cautiously.Subjects--Topical Terms:
