Stress is caused by the pace of contemporary life. It has been established that stress is an inherent element of all diseases. My intention is to describe thoroughly the stress among Chinese people in New York, outlining its basic characteristics, to further our understanding of stress in general. As a group and as individuals, how do the Chinese in New York encounter stress, and how does it influence them in dealing effectively with life's challenges?Subjects--Topical Terms:

Both a descriptive method and an analytical method were employed. Data were derived from individuals and their intergenerational families, choosing from different occupations, educational background, and work experiences. By asking regular personalized questions, we compared their personal experience of stress with that of their parents, grandparents, or children in the United States or in China.

It has included three cases of unrelated individuals, the results of 49 respondees to questionnaires, and an interviewing of two intergenerational families totalling 8 individuals, indicating the levels of adjustment from their homeland to new home; differences in perceived values among the generations and the resulting stress; and the ranking of difficulties in immigrant adjustment. My main purpose is to shed light on stress among the Chinese people in New York.
