Thesis (M.A.)--University of Nevada, Reno, 1996.
Archaeological and historical studies in northern Nevada have most often focused on aspects of "building of the West" such as the Pony Express, the Central Pacific Railroad, and the Comstock Lode. The majority of these have been broad in scope out of necessity because of the large amount of available data and the enormous popularity of each subject. Only a few have been primarily concerned with the everyday life of the common laborer from that period; most of these have been concerned with Euroamerican miners and workers. This study intends to illuminate the site-types, living conditions, history, and material culture of the Overseas Chinese railroad workers who, in 1869, built the Virginia and Truckee Railroad and to compare these sites and associated materials with workers camps in other parts of the United States.Subjects--Topical Terms:
