This study was conducted to examine the need for university level nonprofit management education. It looks specifically at the natural resource based nonprofit subsector and the creation of a graduate level initiative specializing in environmental and conservation organizations. This program would be located at Michigan State University within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Focus groups were employed to determine the educational needs of such organizations in the mid-Michigan area. Two sessions were held with past and present employees to gain insight into requisite skills and knowledge bases. Additional input was sought to determine other relevant factors in the design of such an initiative.
