This study assessed the short-term effects of the addition of lumbar mobilizations to conventional treatment in patients with mechanical low back pain. Twenty-six subjects participated; twelve were given conventional treatment, and 14 were given conventional treatment plus mobilizations. Subjects were seen a total of five visits.

It was concluded that the addition of lumbar mobilizations resulted in a significant decrease in pain scores over four and five visits. Disability scores improved more in subjects that received mobilizations, however, there was no significant difference between groups. Lumbar ROM did not change. The selected ROM tests may not be sensitive enough to demonstrate a change over five visits.
