Hytek Ltd.'s rapid growth from a small family farm to becoming the largest privately owned hog producer in Canada has created the new challenge of maintaining its core values. This challenge has increased as Hytek was following an intense business strategy and vision to become the best Canadian food company in the world. This collaborative action research project utilized surveys, focus groups, and a World Cafe to help employees explore the question, "How can Hytek maintain its organizational core values during intense growth?" Hytek's management and non-management concluded that in order to preserve their core values, they needed to include all employees in 13 key communication and teamwork practices. The senior management team also recommended a future project to explore the integration of Hytek's culture and values with their newest subsidiary, Springhill Farms.
