Thesis (M.S.)--Lamar University - Beaumont, 2004.
The purpose of this study was to determine how color affects children in the environment of a pediatrician's waiting room. The researcher visited three local pediatricians' offices. Interviews were conducted with 36 children (aged 5--14 years) in the waiting room. Initial perceptions of emotional well-being and level of physical discomfort were recorded using the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale and the Faces Emotion Scale. Three colors, one from each color group (warm: red, yellow, orange; cool: blue, purple, green; neutral: black, white, gray) were presented in random order to each child. Responses were recorded for pain and emotion as each of the three colors was viewed by the child. Results indicated that color affects children's perception of physical and emotional well-being in a pediatric office setting. The cool color group appeared to evoke the most positive responses.
