The primary purpose of this study is to examine the Piano Concerto by Tyzen Hsiao, one of the most important Taiwanese composers. Mr. Hsiao's compositional style is not only influenced by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Bartok, but it is also strongly marked by native Taiwanese folk music. Hsiao received a Western musical education in Taiwan, Japan, and America, then stayed in America for eighteen years until 1995.
