The purpose of this study was to determine the prescriptive validity of the use of a classification system for SI joint dysfunction to guide appropriate treatment resulting in a decrease on patients' lumbosacral pain and overall disability as well as to determine the effectiveness of a sacroiliac (SI) joint manipulation on patient's overall disability level and pain level for 3 classifications of SI joint dysfunction. Fifteen subjects underwent a standardized lumbar and SI joint examination and received a SI joint manipulation. A repeated measures ANOVA of VAS scores demonstrate a significant improvement of the subjects' perception of pain immediately after the manipulation ( P=.001) as well as 2-5 days after the manipulation (P=.011). Results for the ANOVA of OSW scores demonstrate a significant improvement of the subject's perception of disability 2-5 days after the manipulation (P=.019). Predictor variables were analyzed for a successful outcome with the SI joint manipulation.
