Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2008.
The obesity rate amongst adolescents in San Bernardino County in Southern California is 24.4%. This is an increase from the 23.7% adolescent obesity rate reported in 2001 (Overweight Children in California, California Center for Public Health Advocacy, 2004, http://www.publichealthadvocacy.org/overweight2002.html, ¶1). The purpose of this research is to determine whether a relationship exists between the obesity rate among adolescent girls aged 14-17 and computer and video gaming usage at a high school in Southern California. This research study uses a quantitative research methodology to conduct a pilot study in order to collect data to be used in the quantitative research study.
