Thesis (D.M.)--University of Phoenix, 2007.
Little knowledge exists about how the competing demands of organizational contextual factors influence CEOs' adoption of transformational leadership behaviors. The purpose of the qualitative case study was to explore patterns between the factors of profitability and the perceived adoption of leadership behaviors by a sample of 16 CEOs of corporations in the United States of America. Content analysis of interviews, speeches, and transcripts was conducted to explore the symbolic language the leaders employed when they communicated with stakeholders. The research findings revealed that profitability factors did not appear to influence the perceived leadership behaviors of the sampled CEOs. The strategic leaders appeared to adopt leadership behaviors that corresponded to the full range leadership model proposed by Avolio and Bass (2002).
