Ludwig Van Beethoven was a musical genius. Starting with the traditions of the Classical era, he embarked on an evolution of composition that catapulted music into the expressions and emotions of the Romantic era. As a result, much of his genius comes from the emotions that his music evokes. He felt, loved, and lived like any other man of his time and this can be seen, felt, and heard through the music of three of his symphonies. Through a close analysis of the music of his First, Fifth, and Ninth Symphonies, juxtaposed with the biographical record, this study shows that the emotions and feelings that Beethoven possessed during the time of the composing of these symphonies can be seen in the music itself. Beethoven the man and his times can be found in the music of the First, Fifth, and Ninth Symphonies.
