Latinos, specifically gay and bisexual Latino men, are heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS. Numerous studies have found an association between internalized homophobia and risky sexual behaviors among gay and bisexual men. Additional studies have indicated that a high level of internalized homophobia is linked to risky sexual behavior and consequently aids the risk for contracting HIV. A self-administered questionnaire was employed to investigate the association between internalized homophobia and sexual behavior among Spanish speaking Latino gay and bisexual men, in Orange County. A total of 116 Latino gay and bisexual men were recruited to participate in the study. Participants were Latino gay and bisexual men living or visiting Orange County. The study revealed that there is no association between the level of internalized homophobia and risky sexual behavior with this group. The results, however, indicate that all participants have some level of internalized homophobia, a low one for the majority of participants. In addition, two thirds of the sample reported 2 or less sexual partners, and low levels of partner-related sexual behavior risks. The information obtained from the current study is valuable in the design and implementation of HIV prevention intervention with Latino gay and bisexual men in Orange County.
