The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study is to understanding the lived experiences of teaching on the first day of student teaching for home economics (HE) student teachers in Saudi Arabia. What does the experience mean to them? Data were collected through interviews with 12 participants. The interviews were unstructured and could be characterized as conversations between the student teachers and the researcher. All the interviews were tape recorded. The interviews were transcribed, translated into Arabic, and analyzed to uncover themes that expressed the meanings these student teachers gave to their teaching experiences. Four themes were identified (a) The student teacher's bodily experience; (b) Smiling and laughing while student teaching; (c) Being with students; (d) Being observed by a university teacher educator.

Understanding student teachers' experience during their first day of being a teacher provides insights to teacher educators about how to help student teachers before they start out in the classroom. Also, this study could help prospective student teachers get a sense about the experiences they might encounter in their student teaching.
