In this thesis, a collaborative system for remote monitoring and analysis of live-stock farm odours is presented. The system provides rich functionalities to integrate odour data and collaboration information. By taking advantage of these functionalities, large-scale data exchanging, tracking, processing and reporting are enabled. This system promotes the participation and collaboration among all the users in the livestock farm odour community, which advances over the traditional research work. The system utilizes a wireless network with a set of electronic noses to measure chemical compounds and environment factors, such as temperature and humidity. These electronic noses are placed at locations around the farm and sensor signals are sent wirelessly to the data acquisition station, where the data is sent to the central server through remote web service connection for further analysis. On central server side, a software suite is developed to provide a platform for collaborations among users. This web based collaborative system provides an efficient and convenient platform for collaboration and cooperation among livestock producers, consulting agencies and governments offices. A data analysis and reporting system is also developed on central server side. It can calibrate the sensor signals from the wireless network, where both chemical factors (such as gas sensor readings) and environmental factors (such as humidity and temperature information) are considered. In additional, it assists farm users in making odour control decisions, based on analysis results and human expertise knowledge.
