The transition from fossil fuels to low-carbon energies has sparked debates regarding justice and equity. Renewable energies hold the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change. However, the trade-offs associated with these cleaner alternatives seem to disproportionately affect the rights of certain communities. The lands required for renewable energy infrastructure might lead to conflicts over land rights, resulting in the displacement of specific communities, particularly indigenous people, and exposing them to health issues and environmental impacts. Additionally, climate change mitigation policies, such as carbon pricing and cap-and-trade regulations, should be carefully designed to ensure justice and equity for all individuals. This research aims to first identify situations in which the rights of certain communities may be affected by the development of clean energies, whether related to clean infrastructure or policies. Subsequently, the study proposes solutions to enhance justice and equity in the energy sector.
