My interest in this thesis is to evaluate the influence of music within the confines of the language classroom, as I myself am a high school foreign language teacher. Through the examination of journal articles and previous studies I will analyze the adverse effects that music can play when implemented in a high school L2 learning scenario. After which I will present my own findings, from a 2-week experiment, that touches the most basic constructs of the use of music in such an environment. The study will delve, not only into aspects of learning, but also into the role that motivation attributes to the possible benefits of having music present with learning. This study will illuminate that, besides a few potentially negative scenarios, the positive effects that music has on the brain can be used, to not only motivate kids but also, to bring about better recollection and memorization within the L2 classroom.
