Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2024.
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) display deficits in skills ranging from communication to social skills. Previous literature has expanded on the use of behavior-analytic strategies using different modalities to increase skills such as communication and social skills in children with ASD. Specifically, the utilization of parent/caregiver implementation to be trainers for their child has been evaluated to determine the effectiveness and long-term use of the intervention for both parent and child participants. The current study evaluated the effects of a remote behavioral skills training (BST) model to teach parents to implement social skills training with their children. The study also evaluated the effects of the parent-implemented approach on the child's acquisition and generalization of the social skill of interest. This study also extends the previous literature on the utilization of an online modality for parent training as well as a BST package to increase social skills in children with ASD.
