Thesis (M.A.)--University of Wyoming, 2019.
This study applies the co-cultural theory to explore Chinese LGBT people's online coming out narratives. Few researches exist on Chinese LGBT people communication, specifically in regard to Mainland of China. This study utilized narrative analysis, coding techniques in grounded theory, to explore how Chinese LGBT people made their coming out decision under the influence of traditional culture, what co-cultural practices they would enact and the frequent coming out outcomes. Results indicated that Chinese LGBT people's coming out decision making, communicative practices choices and their coming-our outcomes are highly influenced by traditional Chinese culture. However, it is possible for Chinese LGBT people to enact propriate co-cultural communicative practices to get more chance to be accepted by their audience. This study provides both the theoretical and practical implications to Chinese LGBT people's coming out communication.
