Creating Motivation for Indigenous Youth was designed based on a literature review on cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral activation, generational trauma within indigenous communities and the outcome of generational trauma. The Creating Motivation for Indigenous Youth Program (CMIYP) was developed based on research findings and reviewed by subject matter experts. CMIYP is a group therapy program with eight sessions total consisting of cultural and family norms discussions and utilization of cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral activation. A total of five subject matter experts reviewed the program manual presented by research. Subject matter experts completed two surveys: the first survey consisted of open-ended questions and the second survey consisted of a Likert scale questionnaire. Subject matter experts assessed clarity, helpfulness and appropriateness, and ways to improve the CMIYP that were developed for indigenous youth from ages twelve to seventeen years old. Data analysis reflected positive support for the CMIYP. On both questionnaires, overall themes revealed that CMIYP could assist indigenous youth struggling with depressive symptoms. Limitations of this study were small sample sizes, questionaries being limiting in potential reflection that could have impacted SMEs open-ended responses, and lack of indigenous clinical representation. Strengths included not limiting the focusing on one specific indigenous community or location.
