Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is characterized by an individual's perceived flaws that are only slight or not noticeable at all by others, that cause distressing preoccupation (Biby, 1998; Flygare et al., 2020; Giannopoulos et al., 2022; Hammond & Reeve, 2020; Philips et al., 2007; Ritzert et al., 2020; Singh & Veale, 2019; Summers et al., 2020). Currently, the gold standard of care for psychological intervention with this disorder is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or pharmacological interventions of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) (Flygare et al., 2020; Hammond & Reeve, 2020; Phillipou et al., 2016; Schulte et al., 2020; Singh & Veale, 2019). However, currently only 40-54% of individuals who engage in CBT report that they responded to treatment (Flygare et al., 2020), this leads to the question on if our current knowledge, awareness and efficacy with treating BDD is leading to a disservice of this population. This single subject pilot study's purpose is to explore if a QEEG guided LORETA Z Score training neurofeedback protocol, which is specific to the individual participant, could lead to a change in objective measures of the quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG); and subjective symptoms of BDD, anxiety, depression, eating disorder, as well as Quality of Life change over the 20-session protocol. Results showed a change across most QEEG analyses over all three assessment points, along with an overall reduction in BDD symptomology, anxiety, as well as eating disorder symptomology. No change was observed in depressive symptomology. Additionally, a decrease in overall Quality of Life was observed.{A0}
