Adults who have experienced trauma can increase their stress resilience using mind-body interventions. Adults who are impacted by trauma have increased difficulty with their ability to cope, as well as decreased stress resiliency capabilities. Occupational therapists focus on quality of life improvement and have the skills to treat trauma by providing intervention to increase resiliency, self-regulation, coping skills, and sensory and interoceptive awareness. Offering the evidenced-based mind-body interventions of yoga, mindfulness, and therapeutic breathing through an occupational therapy lens can yield positive outcomes in helping adults impacted by trauma symptoms. The mind-body interventions were offered to adults with a history of trauma, and the skills of therapeutic breathing, self-regulation, body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness offered positive results. These were measured by increased stress resilience, mindfulness, and heart rate variability. The findings support the benefit of using mind-body interventions for adults who have experienced past trauma. An experimental design utilized a pre-and-post measurement of resiliency, mindfulness, and heart rate variability with no control group for a five-week intervention program that utilized mind-body interventions. Quantitative data was collected and analyzed for a small sample size using descriptive statistics calculating the central tendency and content analysis to analyze the nominal data from the pretest and posttest results. Post-test results measured with the Five Facets of Mindfulness and resilience questionnaire and oximeter readings, improved after the five-week intervention program in all areas of resilience, mindfulness, and heart rate variability.
