Children's emotional capacities are considered to have a major role in their overall adjustment and wellbeing both at home and in their educational setting. The parent-child relationship molds the ways in which children can understand and regulate their emotions as well as their social skills and interactions later in life. While emotional abilities are central to children's development, it is difficult to verbally assess complex emotional processes among young children, who usually struggle to talk at length about their feelings. Bibliotherapy, a relatively new therapeutic approach, offers an indirect, creative way for children to address their emotions using guided reading and writing processes. However, the field currently lacks a standard, validated assessment tool. Therefore, a new assessment procedure called Story Processing(SP) was constructed in the present research, which was then used to explore children's emotional processing and associations between SP measures and several developmental aspects in children's lives, namely the parent-child relationship, social skills, and school readiness.The SP comprises three assessment scales as follows: identification (readers recognize character's inner motives and emotion and are able to identify with the character in the story), echoing (readers connect the story to their inner world), insight(readers gain insight from the story).To examine SP processes among young children and their associations with other developmental aspects, the SP was administered as part of a larger study that was conducted in a large metropolitan area in the north of Israel between 2017-2019. One hundred and fifty children (in the largest of the three studies) and their mothers participated in the SP study, which included a home visit in which mothers filled questionnaires and participated in a videotaped free-play session with their children. The SP assessment for the children, which was conducted by a trained experimenter, was also videotaped. A follow-up visit in the children's kindergartens included child assessments to evaluate social and other cognitive aspects, and a teacher's questionnaire regarding the children's social and academic abilities. Findings from the study revealed several interesting associations between children's emotional abilities as measured by SP and various developmental aspects, as detailed below.The first study describes the development and administration of SP as a new bibliotherapeutic assessment procedure and uses case examples to deepen the understanding of the SP assessment process. The study also provides practitioners with guidelines and directions for using SP with children.The second study in this dissertation examined the connections between children's emotional reflectivity, as measured by the SP assessment, the mother-child relationship quality, and children's social skills. Findings revealed connections between emotional reflectivity and dyadic emotional availability, and especially between echoingand dyadic emotional availability. The study also found that emotional reflectivity mediates the association between emotional availability and prosocial behavior.The third study examined the connections between SP processes of identificationechoing-insight and their relations to different school readiness indicators. Findings support previous studies regarding the intercorrelations between different school readiness indicators and show that children's insight (about the story) mediates the link between children's verbal abilities, Approaches Toward Learning (ATL), and hyperactivity.

520 $a יכולותיהם הרגשיות של ילדים ðחשבות כבעלות תפקיד מרכזי בהסתגלותם הכללית וברווחתם הן בבית והן במסגרת החיðוכית שלהם. יחסי הורה- ילד מעצבים את הדרכים בהן ילדים יכולים להבין ולווסת את רגשותיהם, כמו גם את הכישורים החברתיים והאיðטראקציות שלהם בהמשך החיים. בעוד שיכו לות רגשיות הן מרכזיות בהתפתחות הילדים, קשה להעריך ולמדוד תהליכים רגשיים מורכבים בקרב ילדים צעירים, אשר לרוב מתקשים לדבר באריכות על רגשותיהם. ביבליותרפיה, גישה טיפולית חדשה יחסית, מציעה דרך עקיפה ויצירתית עבור ילדים להתייחס לרגשותיהם וזאת באמצעות תהליכי קריאה וכתיבה מודרכים. עם זאת, בתחום הביבליותרפיה חסר כיום כלי הערכה סטðדרטי ומאומת. לכן, כחלק מן המחקר הðוכחי פותח כלי הערכה חדש בשם: (SP (Processing Story ובהמשך לכך ðבחðו הקשרים השוðים בין התהליכים הרגשיים אשר ðמדדו באמצעות SP לבין היבטים התפתחותיים שוðים בחייהם של ילדים בגיל הרך: יחסי הורה- ילד, מיומðויות חברתיות ומוכðות לבית הספר.P מורכב משלושה סולמות שוðים: הזדהות (יכולת להזדהות עם הדמות בסיפור), הדהוד (יכולת לחבר את תוכן הסיפור לעולם התוכן הפðימי של המאזין או הקורא), ותובðה (יכולת להפיק תובðה חדשה מן הסיפור).על-מðת לבחון את התהליכים הרגשיים הללו בקרב ילדים בגיל הרך, והקשרים של תהליכים אלו להיבטים התפתחותיים שוðים, ה-SP הועבר כחלק ממחקר רחב יותר אשר בוצע בצפון ישראל בין השðים 2019-2017 .מאה וחמישים ילדים ואימותיהם השתתפו במחקר, אשר כלל ביקור בית במהלכו אימהות מילאו שאלוðים והשתתפו בסיטואציית משחק חופשי עם ילדיהן אשר תועדה בוידאו, וכן, הערכת ה -SP שהועברה לילדים המשתתפים במחקר על-ידי ðסייðיות שהוסמכו לכך. גם הערכה זו תועדה בצילום וידאו. בהמשך ðערך ביקור ðוסף בגðי הילדים אשר כלל משימות שהועברו לילדים על-מðת להעריך את המיומðויות החברתיות והקוגðיטיביות שלהם וכן שאלוðים שהועברו לגððת בðוגע למיומðויות חברתיות ולימודיות של הילדים.ממצאי המחקר מראים מספר קשרים מעðייðים בין יכולות רגשיות של ילדים בגיל הרך כפי שðמדדו בעזרת SP והיבטים התפתחותיים ðוספים. שלושת המחקרים וממצאיהם העיקריים יפורטו כעתהמחקר הראשון מתאר את הפיתוח ואופן ההעברה של SP ככלי הערכה ביבליותרפי חדש, ומציג תיאורי מקרה ספציפיים על - מðת להעמיק את ההבðה של תהליך ההערכה דרך SP .המחקר מספק למטפלים הðחיות וכיווðים אפשריים לעבודה עם SPהמחקר השðי בדיסרטציה בחן את הקשרים השוðים בין רפלקטיביות רגשית כפי שðמדדה בעזר ת SP ,איכות מערכת היחסים בין האם לילד, ומיומðויות חברתיות של ילדים בגן. ממצאי מחקר זה מצביעים על קשרים שוðים בין זמיðות רגשית דיאדית לבין יכולת רפלקטיבית, ובמיוחד, על קשרים מעðייðים בין יכולת ההדהוד בעקבות הסיפור לבין זמיðות רגשית דיאדית. בðוסף, ðמצא ðתיב תיווך כאשר היכולת הרפלקטיבית של הילדים מתווכת בין זמיðות רגשית דיאדית להתðהגות פרו-חברתית בגןהמחקר השלישי התמקד בקשרים בין תהליכי הזדהות -הדהוד -תובðה אשר ðמדדים דרך SP לבין מדדים שוðים אשר מצביעים על מוכðות לבית הספר. ממצאי מחקר זה מחזקים מסקðות ממחקרים קודמים אשר הצביעו על קשרים הדדיים בין מדדים שוðים של מוכðות לבית הספר. כמו-כן, ממצאי המחקר הðוכחי מראים כי יכולתם של ילדים להפיק תובðה מן הסיפור, היðה גורם מתווך בין יכולותיהם המילוליות לבין גישותיהם ללמידה והיפראקטיביות.שלושת המחקרים הכלולים בדיסרטציה זו מספקים ידע תיאורטי חדש בðוגע לשימוש בשיטות ביבליותרפיות במחקר, ה מתייחס בין היתר לאופן בו תהליכים רגשיים המתרחשים בזמן הקראת סיפור יכולים לחשוף קשרים להיבטים התפתחותיים אחרים בחייהם של הילדים. מבחיðה פרקטית, המחקר מספק כלי הערכה חדש אשר ðועד לתמוך ולסייע לביבליותרפיסטים במהלך עבודתם, ומציע דרך חדשה ויצירתית בה ðיתן לחשוב על תגובות של ילדים לסיפור.בעוד שðדרשים מחקרים ðוספים על-מðת לתקף את כלי ההערכה החדש, המחקר הðוכחי מציג ידע תיאורטי חדש לגבי תהליכים רגשיים המתגלים דרך שיטות ביבליותרפי ות, והשפעתם על היבטים התפתחותיים שוðים בחייהם של ילדים בגיל הרך, וכן, מציע דרכים בהן ðיתן להשתמש בSP בעבודה החיðוכית והקליðית.
