Yesi (Leung Ping-kwan, 1949-2013) was one of the very few Hong Kong writers whose critical writings are as significant as his literary works. Although he did not write any Hong Kong literary history, he indeed narrated the history and characteristics of Hong Kong literature in his critical essays. He built the frameworks of several issues he concerned most, while he was also the representative writer in those topics, both have greatly influenced Hong Kong literature and culture. The dissertation picks four key words out of his Hong Kong literary discourse. Each chapter includes detail study of his early column writings in the 1970s and his academic papers written after the 1980s. Some of his literary works are also discussed to further demonstrate his viewpoints. Chapter 1 discusses his discourse of the postcolonial Hong Kong culture. He touched on the issue of colonialism in a very young age and later promoted the appropriation of postcolonial theory on the study Hong Kong culture. Chapter 2 sorts out his study on Hong Kong modernist literature and urban culture. Chapter 3 examines his construction of the discourse of ''everyday poetics'' while exploring its origins and stylistic feature. Chapter 4 focuses on his concept of lyrics and lyricism to see how he proposed a ''Hong Kong lyricism''.
