Thesis (M.S.)--Rush University, College of Nursing, 1993.
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of the Allen Cognitive Level Test 1990 (ACL-90) with a brain injured population. This study investigated the association between the ACL-90 and the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA) Battery on brain injured patients. Four subjects between the ages of 18 and 73 participated. Each subject was given the LOTCA Battery and subsequently given the ACL-90 by the occupational therapy department at Loyola University Medical Center. The scores the subjects received were described and the results indicated that there was some association between the subjects' performance on the LOTCA and the ACL-90 in that the subjects performed better on the LOTCA as their ACL-90 scores increased. The sample size used in this study was too small, however, to yield information of any statistical significance. Yet the study did reveal that using the ACL-90 in conjunction with the LOTCA can help occupational therapists identify the affects of brain injury on task performance. The author of this study believes that these conclusions support further study using the ACL-90 in conjunction with the LOTCA Battery.
