This study aimed to use quantitative methodology to gather information on Latino men and their perception and ability to recognize emotional and verbal abuse. The study administered a web-based survey through the Survey Monkey platform to participating Latino men living in the United States of America. A vignette presented to participants exhibited a Latina, cis-gender female perpetrating several types of intimate partner violence, such as emotional and verbal abuse, toward her Latino boyfriend, was presented to the participants. Participants then answered questions referencing the vignette. Significant data were collected from all respondents about their ability to perceive emotional abuse, verbal abuse, and intimate partner violence present in a heterosexual relationship. The mean age was 27.26 (M = 27.26; SD = 5.56); the youngest respondent was 18 years old, and the oldest respondent was 35 years old. Most respondents believed that Vanessa's perpetrated behavior toward her boyfriend fell under a type of relationship abuse, suggesting that Latino men can identify some, if not all, unhealthy behaviors present in a heterosexual relationship. The objective of this research study was to learn more about what unique factors, such as own lack of perception of abuse and knowledge of abuse influence a Latino man's choice to stay and be in an actively abusive, heterosexual relationship.

520 $a Este estudio tuvo como objetivo utilizar una metodologia cuantitativa para recopilar informacion sobre los hombres latinos y su percepcion y capacidad para reconocer el abuso emocional y verbal. El estudio administro una encuesta basada en la web a traves de la plataforma Survey Monkey a los hombres latinos participantes que viven en los Estados Unidos de America. Se presento a los participantes una vineta que mostraba a una mujer latina cisgenero que perpetraba varios tipos de violencia de pareja, como abuso emocional y verbal, hacia su novio latino. Luego, los participantes respondieron preguntas que hacian referencia a la vineta. Se recopilaron datos significativos de todos los encuestados sobre su capacidad para percibir el abuso emocional, el abuso verbal y la violencia de pareja presentes en una relacion heterosexual. La edad media fue 27,26 (M = 27,26; DE = 5,56); el encuestado mas joven tenia 18 anos y el encuestado de mayor edad tenia 35 anos. La mayoria de los encuestados creian que el comportamiento perpetrado por Vanessa hacia su novio era un tipo de abuso en la relacion, lo que sugiere que los hombres latinos pueden identificar algunos, si no todos, los comportamientos nocivos presentes en una relacion heterosexual. El objetivo de este estudio de investigacion fue aprender mas sobre que factores unicos, como la propia falta de percepcion y conocimiento del abuso, influyen en la decision de un hombre latino de permanecer y estar en una relacion heterosexual activamente abusiva.
