Various traditions have recognized the role of healers' personal experiences with suffering and overcoming wounds as essential in supporting others' healing processes. Yet the utilization of the therapist's woundedness as a clinical tool was never formally conceptualized. This study explores how therapists' relations to their internal wounding can impact their clinical practice using a depth-oriented hermeneutic examination of the Wounded Healer archetype, its historical and cultural representations, and central aspects of the experience of wounded healers. Integration of the findings with the author's personal experience with the Wounded Healer, as well as an exploration of key components of engaging with one's vulnerabilities, are presented via heuristic and alchemical hermeneutics methodologies for the purpose of delineating a possible avenue for therapists to enhance their practice. The findings suggest that a conscious and continuous connection with one's wounds can contribute to the therapeutic process and aid in the therapist's professional growth.{A0}
