The purpose of this Action Research study was to investigate and improve the implementation and utilization of technology in online learning environments for the subject of at a post-secondary institution located in Boston, MA. Participants and data collected in Cycle 1 consisted of interviewing students, faculty, and administrators who engaged in learning mathematics in an online environment at the post-secondary institution researched. Through these interviews, qualitative data about their experiences and perspectives regarding online learning was collected. Action steps, including (1) engaging in a collaboration with an administrative teaching and learning office, (2) developing a Virtual Mathematics Toolkit in collaboration with a teaching and learning office, and (3) brainstorming an implementation strategy for the Virtual Mathematics Toolkit, were designed, implemented, and evaluated in Cycle 2 to discover the components that a faculty and administrative teaching and learning office collaboration must have in order to successfully develop a toolkit for mathematics resources. Findings included (1) the incorporation of strong project management skills, (2) the necessity of having faculty and administrative experts to encompass the differing perspectives of the needs of students, and (3) the necessary practical skills required to complete a project of this nature. Implications for the organization included (1) implementing the Virtual Mathematics Toolkit so that it can be utilized in the remote or in-person learning environment to support effective and accessible teaching and learning for mathematics and mathematics-based courses, (2) publishing a rubric for partnering with other departments to develop similar toolkits or resources, and (3) establishing best practices for the skills needed to facilitate a successful collaboration.Keywords: remote/virtual/online learning; remote/virtual/online teaching; post-secondary; mathematics; collaboration process.
