This study explored whether there is a relationship between teachers' beliefs on bilingualism and their expectations of English learners. This qualitative study aimed to establish a relationship between whether teachers are supportive of bilingualism and how they expect students to use their native and non-native language skills while keeping sociocultural and grounded theory in mind. Data were collected through interviews with teachers currently in the profession who teach in Illinois. The results of this exploration may prove beneficial for stakeholders in education when determining their teachers' support for students' linguistic diversity, language support placements, course offerings, language allocation, professional development, and cultural responsiveness.
