Education is often considered an important component for social and financial well-being. The willingness of families to invest in their children's education is evident by the increased number of private tutoring centers and supplemental education programs that market educational success. This paper identifies the cultural differences that exist in the growing demand for tutoring and how these differences may lead to racial inequalities in educational achievement. Qualitative findings suggest that parents want to provide their children with better opportunities through tutoring. Differences in the use of supplemental education were noted not only among different racial groups but also among different immigrant generations. Framed by the theories of Pierre Bourdieu, this study focused on immigrants who create cultural capital to meet the demands of school and gain educational capital. Beyond the findings in this study, more large-scale research is necessary to draw conclusions and connections on immigrant groups and tutoring. This will allow schools to better support all immigrant students in the United States and allow all students to achieve their greatest academic potential.
