When COVID-19 erupted across the world, society was forced to accommodate widespread changes. Restrictions and other health efforts clashed with the pre-COVID routines of many American communities. The criminal justice system was not immune from this period of adjustment. In 1979, Cohen and Felson focused on converging environmental circumstances to explain crime instead of specific individual elements. Routine Activities Theory (RAT) signified that the convergence of a motivated offender, suitable target, and lack of capable guardianship, attributed to criminality. Further, the convergence may be accelerated by worldly events that alter the routine activities of a community. The COVID-19 pandemic acutely caused drastic changes to societal norms across the United States. This paper analyzes the changes to crime rates in a suburban community by looking at reported offenses both pre-, and post- pandemic.{A0}
