In 2020, exposure to COVID-19 became a global health crisis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention established lock-down isolation guidelines as a prevention strategy to decrease the spread of COVID-19 among adults aged 65 years or older who were residing in long-term care facilities. Despite the isolation, some residents still contracted COVID-19, which caused more debilitating mental and physical health disorders The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine how long-term care residents in North Carolina perceived their mental health status prior to, during, and since the onset of COVID-19. This quantitative study did not reveal a correlation between COVID lock-down restrictions and increased feelings of isolation and/or decreased mental well-being. COVID restrictions significantly limited the distribution of the survey and data collection for this study, a limitation that might have influenced the research outcomes.
