The negative impact of consumerism and commodification on society is a growing concern, as they are often linked to the decline of social interactions and the widening of class divisions. To mitigate this impact, interior design can play a crucial role in redefining commercial spaces, such as shopping malls, beyond their traditional function of promoting consumerism. By studying the effects of commodification and capitalism, designers can create spaces that prioritize social inclusion and vibrancy, and that integrate seamlessly into people's daily lives. To achieve this, the ideal shopping mall should be designed to provide not only opportunities for shopping, but also for social interaction and community building. This can be accomplished by incorporating creative stores and public spaces that encourage people to gather and engage with one another. By redefining the function of the mall beyond consumerism, it can become a multifunctional space that serves the needs of the community in a variety of ways.Design interventions, such as adding resting platforms and a spiral staircase, can enhance the mall's appeal and encourage social interaction, making it a more inclusive and vibrant space for everyone. By prioritizing social interaction and community building over consumerism, interior designers can help to create a more harmonious real estate, and mitigate the negative impact of consumerism and commodification on society.
