In this paper I articulate the value of encouraging love between person and product to increase the lifespan of furniture and reduce furniture waste. I look at historical trends through a critical lens to emphasize the importance of changing how people relate to their products, analyze, and perform research on person-product love, and determine frameworks best suited to designing products intended to influence people's behavior. Through this process, I develop a methodology for encouraging those relationships, and leverage those strategies to design furniture intended to facilitate the development of loving relationships between furniture and user. I recount the process of developing the furniture using the methodology developed through this research. Finally, I discuss the benefits and consequences of such designs and propose further uses for this methodology beyond furniture.
