God has called women into ministry for generations. Though the "stained glass ceiling" has been broken, women continue to receive limited access to ordination, ecclesiastical titles, and senior leadership positions within the church. Yet women persist in their ministerial callings despite denominational and societal opposition. Many denominations prevent the licensure and ordination of women based on their biblical interpretation of 1 Corinthians 14:33b-35 and 1 Timothy 2:9-15. This study will provide an interpretive overview of these scriptures, proving that the silencing of women in the church and disqualifying women from teaching was essentially a cultural issue. This study also examines women's lived experiences in six denominations: three that support women in ministry and ordain or confirm women to the highest levels of leadership within the church and three that preclude women from ordination. The results of the study's phenomenological portion portray women's challenges, triumphs, and persistence in ministerial leadership.
